Research¶
Starting with the ritualic monthly menstrual blood collection I create an intimate laboratory in my bathroom,
gave me the space to exploring my own fluids and experiment with it.
Following the process of crystalization did in week 9 I grown my own taboo-based crystals.

"menstrual conscience"
is a path that many still prefer to undertake and the reason is the stigma due to the absence of menstrual blood not only in our imagination but in the entire culture.
The aim is to create taboo-based sexy embellements, to be worn as a sexy and enhancing beauty piece. Will be part of a video performance as final project documentation.

FUNCTION OF THE DILDO A dildo challenges the roles of penetrated and penetrating. Anyone can penetrate if he has a dildo. Thus, the roles of man and woman within the traditional sexual relationship also disappear: even a woman can penetrate, even a man can be penetrated. (Manifesto Controsessuale)
I developed the mold and the first prototype in week 9 the aim is to follow the natural cycles and be biobased in symbiosis with nature, through ne technologies and digital fabrication.
nature is cyclical.
nature creates zero waste.
It only creates what it needs and then everything created breaks down, decomposes, and can be composed into something new.
After testing different materials like Agar, Tapioca I decided to use Alginate.
ALGINATE MATERIAL Alginate is present in the cell walls of brown algae, as the calcium, magnesium and sodium salts of alginic acid. Alginate bioplastic is made by combining two separate mixtures: one containing sodium alginate, water and glycerine (as a base) and a curing agent, calcium chloride. Calcium has the ability to form two bonds which will hold the alginate into a long link forming this gel as a molecule called a polymer.
WATER RESISTANCE : Alginate Bioplastic, once dipped in calcium chloride, is water proof with PH neutral or acid water. It starts dissolving in a couple hours when the PH of the water it is submerged in, is alkaline.
HEAT RESISTANCE : Alginate Bioplastic is very heat resistant, even when casted in a thin film, it can withstand temperatures up to 150 degrees celsius.
As the Alginate shrinks a lot and when it dries and it stays wet in the centre instead, I created a smaller shape to insert inside the mold so that I can also have space for the electronics.
On my last experiment I add menstrual blood as Raw material as the following recipe:
24gr Alginate
17gr Olive Oil
6gr aceite essencial rosemary
55gr glycerin
+ pure blood
During the experimentation I decided as well to try with different shapes and I found in the Manta Ray a good inspiration to create an Hybrid sex toy.
The manta ray is a solitary animal that has no masters and does not allow itself to be commanded by anyone. It symbolizes independence and indifference towards the judgment of others.
I 3d printed the shape and I'm now working on the molding part.
EVOLUTION OF MY SEX TOYS
Continuing experimenting the recipe alginate + pure blood I came out with biolatex idea.
A further evolution of these materials would be a vest moulded on the body as an hapticdress with embedded sensors to allow the freedom to explore.
To dialogue about "Sex is not just penetration" but the totality of the bodily experience also not with just the purpose of the final orgasm.
The bigger sexual organ is the skin
The more powefull one is the brain
SYNTHETIC PLEASURE¶
During the exploration of materials and its experimentation in the field of pleasure and sexuality I questioning myself about what kind of electronic could be embedded into these artefacts.
Interactive sound waves.

Sonification is a process through which a set of data of any nature can be transformed into acoustic elements in order to investigate their nature and the relationships between them.
