4D Designer Wearable Packaging | Traditional Attire
The traditional form of packaging any 3 dimensional object/accessory/shape is to form a cardboard box around that package. This adds on to the volume, weight and energy consumption across the development of the product all the way till its reciept by the consumer. Recent developments in 3d printing over stretched textiles that store this energy also face the same problems in terms of packaging. My final project wishes to develop a traditional sikh warrior attire that can be 4d printed BUT PACKAGED FLAT till its recieved by the consumer.
The wearer of these attires is to soak the flat surface in Warm water and watch the magic as the flat 2d shape forms into the client's 3d wearable. The product might not have a big market, but my focus is on developing the cycle a product such as this takes from manufacturing to the end consumer so as to decrease the energy consumptions that additional cardboard boxes add on to a products overall energy footprint. I assume this as more of a Futuristic design piece for the more traditional cultures around the world as a dress of Honor that I would like to dedicate towards all warriors of all nations who sacrificed themselves for making sure the world we live in is a better place. Specifically dedicated to Humanitarion Relief groups and UN peace task force. As of now, am concentrating specifically on the shoulder area which i would like to develop as it has a significant value as a place to put up one's epullette for warriors.
I will post more information on this page as the researcj progresses. For now, the design is to offer:
- Shape Shifting textile design
- 4D Printing
- Bio Dye
- Soft robotics
V1: 4D Printed
The Final design will be a shape shifting design
Heat dependent
This transition will be dependent upon heat
Waving Kalgi
Kalgi (Turban Feather) will be kinetic
Soft robotic
Embedded inflatable shape adjuster
V2: Crystallisation
This is an alternate to V1
Bio-Dyed
Crystals will be bio-dyed
Waving Kalgi
Kalgi (Turban Feather) will be kinetic
Crystallisation
Design on reaching desired shape is crystallised
Universally applicable Packaging technology
The design of the print orients the shape and so a flat disc can take any shape"Lightweight
The fabric and print is feather light and easy to stack for optimal packaging.Clean Design
The stackable nature of the product makes its easy to transport via document type courriers from production stage to the end-consumer.Carbon Footprint
By getting rid of different shapes and sizes of cardboard packaging, these package designs stay flat too and self-assembled to a desired shape in less than 2 mins4D Designer Wearable Packaging | Traditional Attire
