About me and my motivation for being in Textile-Academy

My background: copywriter and entrepreneurship. After working many years in advertising, where I learnt incredible things about life and creativity, I decided to quiet and choose other ways of still being a dreamer but with a real impact in the society. Then I found entrepreneurship, a group of people like me looking different ways of making a change around them. I went to many open events before making the next move: trying to work with ancestral design and people from communities in Perú. I was part of a group that gave workshop for still develop skills of artisans in Lima.

I did some years later my own brand Nishi Cobin, without been a fashion designer, I learnt about process, fabrics and others. Looking from near all the work of making clothes and understood that is impossible to sell a t-shirt for 3 euros, cause the cost in time and money for garments have another value. Also understand that for have this kind of prices many big companies have their workers in bad conditions or with bad salaries.

In my way of searching about sustanability, fair brands, social impact and native communities in Peru I joined the team of Evea Eco-Fashion Shoes as a designer and research assistant for natural materials and techniques. Evea is a brand of shoes that seeks to promote the sustainable use of the forest based on the organized harvesting and ecological processing of latex tree Shiringa. The shiringa is a tree that grows wild in the Amazon and has an internal milky liquid called latex, which, through an artisan process, is converted into rubber sheets. It is a very old technique where trees are not cut, but the necessary latex is extracted so that the tree can continue alive and regenerate.

In the other hand, we don't need more clothes only for fashion, we need clothes that last like before and have an extra value in our daily life. Is time to make changes, be creators of our future and not only designers praised in the world of fashion for our high sales.
