What I've learnt¶

What is "digital bodies"? That was the first impression for me to hear that word.

It is the collection of human data such as height, body shape, movement, even heart rate that are measured by camera, sensor and so on.
I thought body was a physical thing and digital is just a "virtual" stuff. However digital contains all of the real data which are measured through camera, sensor and stored virtually.

we were introduced many ways to design from the body itself, from pencil to AI. We also learnt the importance of "body" as a design field. We should think not only the design of clothing, but "body" itself has to be a design object.

Changing the views of the Body¶

Stereo type of the body → Point cloud → mesh (go to more "real" data) Especially, female body has changed "ideal body" standard with the times. We deal the body from "physical body" to "point cloud→mesh".
Ergonomics Body is measured data for science and products and those data make standards for the products.
Anthropometry It is data-driven design. We can get the information about the human body and personas and find the race, period, etc.. from these data.
Biometric data From the lecture;

Biometrics are body measurements and calculations related to human characteristics. Biometric authentication is used in computer science as a form of identification and access control. It is also used to identify individuals in groups that are under surveillance.

Digital Identity¶

We have to make "Digital Twin" in this week. Digital twin is a virtual representation of an object or system to reflect a physical object accurately.

Digital identities are the combination of "Digital twin", "Web3", "the metaverse", "virtual try-on(fashion)" and "augmented reality(AR)".

3D Technologies¶

When we scanning something, we usually use the collections of data points which is called point cloud for shaping things.

3D Scanning technology¶

- Photogrammetry
 Open source software are provided for PC and smartphone.

- Time-of-Flight(LIDAR) Scanners
  It is mainly for large scale.

- Laser Triangulation Scanners
  As a laser beam(linear light) projects, it scans really fast.

- Structure Light Scanners
  A projector projects a pattern(such as stripes) onto an object, <br> 
  and the camera detects distortion in the pattern.

- Contact Scanners
  A probe physically touches the surfaces of an object and record the points.

- Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) & Computed Tomography(CT)
  Medical scanning technologies that produces detailed inside the body.

Document the use of 3D scanner and softwares to acquire a 3D model¶

I scanned a hand by polycam. After scanning it, the file is edit by Blender. First, I didn't know how to cut unneeded part, so I just delete little by little. Then I've learnt cutting those part by remeshing.

install(Update) Blender¶

You go to this website and click download. Then "Dowonload Blendar" button is coming. Check your PC and version and click it and download file. (You can see my Fab academy page)

As I already installed it, I upgraded it.

Document the process of repairing and/or manipulating a 3D mesh and slicing it¶

I got the basic Blender lecture from Rico who is my instructor and how to use mesh with add-on "Seams to Sawing Pattern".

Basic use of Blender(mesh)¶

Mesh We can change display mode the "mode" bar :Object ←→ Edit
When we work in the mesh, we chose "Edit mode".

In Edit mode, we can chose those 3 types for selecting the mesh.

1 : Vertex You can pick the point and change the shape from that point.
2 : Edge You can pick the edge line and change the shape centered by that edge line
3 : Face You can pick face and change the shape.

Create my ready to cut file for laser cutting, learn how to use the laser cutter and document the workflow and upload your 3D and 2D files¶

As I already learnt how to use laser cutter at Fab Academy(my site is here), and Rico advised me to explore the technique in Blender where a model can be turned into a lasercut.able fabric pattern as a group work(work with my instructor,Rico). So we tried to use add-on soft "Seams to Sewing Pattern".

How to use Seams to Sewing¶

1) Install Seams to Sewing Pattern" add-on file

Go to Seams to Sewing Pattern by Thomas Kole and push "Download from GitLab" button.

When GitLab page is open, you click code and select "zip" at the "download source code".

Then Open Blender, and select "Edit → Preferences".
Select "Add-ons", and click

2) Make an object I made a "hand" object for this add-on.

Click object menu up left and select "seams to sewing pattern". Then another window comes out and change items if you want, and click OK. (I change the target number of triangles from 5000 to 10000)

select Mark seam from this menu

Automatically, mode is changed to Edit mode. Then select edges where will form the seams. After selecting that, menu is appeared by clicking right button of the mouse
