7. Open Source hardware: from fibers to fabric

This week I worked on defining my final project idea and started to getting used to the documentation process.

inspiration

Some of the students don't know yet "WALTER", Walter Gonzales Arnao is a Peruvian architect, industrial designer, master's degree in renewable energy. He did the FABACADEMY in 2012. he developped the FABLOOM project using digital technology with the purpose of reviving ancestral artisanaltechniques. this project has been replicatedin Fablabs in all continents. Each year at fab event since FAB7 in Lima, he has conducted workshop about Fab Loom

He also run workshop with a miniLoom which is really cool and keep the design up to date:

I am happy to share the lastest design he gave to me at FAB15 : MiniLoom to cut in acrylique 5mm ready from trotec laser cut

He is also a writer who fight for handcraft in south Americas

But he is mainly known as Crasy Walter "The Best" mascot of FabEvent, master of FabExercice

My Hardware Project

I will not try to improve MiniLoom design, I would like to focus on My incubator.

As I don't have time in a week or two to do it and because it's not my Final project I just want to well define the idea, investigate on all kind of openhardware/ DIY by type of growingsystem/incubator.

I want to hack the Broken Vine Cave I found in the street to be able to incubate anything Plant, Mycelium/Mushroom, Bacteria, Kombucha , Eggs , etc...(except human and big animal), not all at the same time but I want to be able to reproduce the best envirronment for the living item I want to grow.

So I need to be able to control this kind of parameters :

Light, Heat/Temp, Humidity, air, water, PH, nutriment, salinity...

My inspiration and Ideas sources

Hardware

Power : In the campus there is big place where people put stuff including ewaste to but recycled : IT S MY RESOURCERY.

One day they through away plenty of server rack I was not able to take every thing but I took more than 10 power supply from those Rack.

so it's 1400W which can deliver 12V / 116A and +5V / 4A which is pretty cool.

If you plug in it seems working (small fan) but there no power on back . I found some hack : on the top the big pin on the right will be +12V when activated so that means the big on bottom right is GND.

if you look at the green circle, you will see that a PIN is shorter than the others and there is about 3.3v voltage (probably due to a pull up resistor) so by connecting this one to GND, I make it believe that it is at the bottom of its rack. It works !!there now 12v on the big top PIN -> Free power Supply regulated 12V 116A

Heat : old 3Dprinter heat plate recycled with alunminium dissipator on it.

Light : LED Strip ws2812 using library which help to set light by frequency / White LED+ I bought plenty of them for nothing during fab12 in Shenzen.

Bio Sensor : lucky me SEED STUDIO is one of big partner of SDG Solution Space( My Lab) so I will ask Monica Shen if she can provide bunch of sensor.
