Concept | touch of the sound

During the following three months, I want to explore some of the problems that people with disabilities have, and provide a solution to one of them.

5 Ws who, what, when, where, why

who

The project is oriented to help people with hearing impairments.

After creating the first prototype of the garment, I would like to test it on some people that live with such a disability, and get their feedback. To see, firstof all, if that makes sense.

I believe that it would help also to create a list of questions about the way they perceive music at this moment; do they feel the vibrations, when the music plays loud, and where are they felt, in the body?

This are just some ideas, but I should think more about the right questions that will discover the potential customer more.

I believe that I am going to need also a translator. I know the organizations that provide support and expertise to people with disabilities: Keystone Moldova, Motivație, AOPD, and think that they could help me with the interviews.

what

I want to create a garment that is meant to help people with hearing impairments, experience music by translating sounds into vibrations on the body.

when

I plan to develop the project, from January to March. For the planning of the 3 month project development, I am using Google Sheets.

where

At ZipHouse and Microlab, Chisinau, Moldova

why

In December, I had the opportunity to be a part of the organizing team for a hackathon on inclusion and accessibility hosted by Dreamups - a tech startups accelerator. Seeing all the amazing ideas generated at the end of those three days, I felt inspired and empowered to have an impact myself, through what I do on a daily basis. This is how this idea came to life.

References projects, research papers, expos, performances etc

While reseaching this topic, I came into some projects that have different purposes, but follow a similar working priciple. One of them is the Hug Shirt

Another amazing project is the FLIP-DOT DRESS created by Pauline Van Dongen.
