My inspiration: La Cochinilla

Nocheztli (Nopal blood) is the Nahuatl term for La Cochinilla and it refers to that magical magenta color that is produced by the female white bug that grows in Nopales, a very traditional cactus in México and a big culinary actor.

The Cochinilla was discovered by the natives of Latinamerica and used centuries ago as a source of color and inspiration for communication and culture. Its economic value was once or major importance being the second source of income after oil in Mexico in the 17th century [^1]

Unfortunately, because of cheap synthetic colorants and cultural shifts (vegeteranism), its production stopped affecting thousands of communities. Its inspiration and wonder is what motivates me to keep discovering the wonders of natural resources: plants, minerals, and people to create something that honors and rescues our historical treasures.

PANTONE named Nocheztli as the "Color of the Year" in 2023.
