State of the art, project management and documentation

1. Objective

Learning new skills

This week has been amazing in terms of getting to know the endless opportunities for developing a project, in my case, very focused on a lighting product. I started learning the many possibilities in materials, designs, and the many tools that are available to do an amazing and cool work.

My main objective in this program is to design and produce my first signature LAMP: base lamp, electrics, lampshade ... where can I innovate? why lamps? I think a LAMP can be a space where I can apply the crafts that I know and new learnings (ceramics, knitting, new materials, digital bodies, wearebles, etc.) and transform them into something meaningful for homes; something that transmits beauty, peace, happiness and belonging.

Is that too much to ask for a lamp? I don´t think so and I will proove it´s possible. So, I started identifying everything that is around a lamp from my perspective:

Next: experimenting & putting everything together

2.1 Inspiration from The world

Uff! there is so much out there; some of beautiful examples of lamps that are fixed on my mind and which I would love to learn more from are:

4. Process and workflow

Considering I do not have a design/art background, everything has been new, challenging but also super exciting.

So, everything started with my visit and interview with Maricruz, from IBERO Puebla, and from then it has been a continous discovery of tools, spaces, people, ideas, opportunities.

My process has not been lineal, it has implied learning a new language (specially in coding -first time-), documenting myself in different areas like digitizing, photo editing, design, palette colors, etc. and I have noticed that it takes me a lot of time to make a decision... so I need to be more adventureous and experiment, it´s better to start constructing than be paralized because of overthinking.

So, this is how my process has been so far:

During this first week in IDIT Puebla we were also able to make progress with starting the production of Kombucha a source for a biomaterial and the setting for producing Biochromes that I personally think could be very useful for using in lampshades.

6. Weekly reflection & critical thinking

  • Everything was new for me, therefore, both my rignt and left sides of my brain are full & running. I never thought I would learn to program code or to even have a website for my creations.
  • I am struggling with being happy with my first versions of content development, which is slowing me down. I look for inspiration in colleagues sites, buy I don´t want to copy.
  • I don´t want to be too obssessed with design, BUT I want to learn more of how to make something with quality and the "looks".
  • I am still not sure how much research is required, but I will try to always do a first search that supports my progresses.
  • I still have problems with the location of texts and images, I will work on it.
  • I struggle saying "it´s good enough" and keep wanting to add and change, it slows me down.
  • My LAMPS project should be one that connects communities and handcrafting so it is inteded to be developed from an ethical and sustainable perspective.

NuEval — final step

Go to NuEval and fill in the checklist, when not complete notify your instructor.
