Notes:
"Process Experiment" phase will take place during winter in a laboratory where external temperatures can be very low. Drying times must therefore be carefully considered, and processes will be developed as much as possible in parallel while previous stages may still be drying.

Initial workshops will be small, involving participants from the FR Woolshed network, and their timing will depend on participants’ availability across locations. Scheduling may therefore require some flexibility.

Unfortunately, after creating the Gantt chart, I realized that the tool I was using had a credit limit and continuing to use it required a paid subscription. I am a strong supporter of free tools and it has been quite challenging to find a fully free option.

Since I was already using Google Calendar to plan and detail my actions, I decided to continue working exclusively with it: my scheduling (select the time period corresponding to the project development phase).

Mentoring sessions

Support needed
I am seeking guidance from the Fabricademy network, both remotely and in-lab, on methodology (process and material testing), as well as facilitating workshops to gather meaningful feedback.

Anastasia Recommendation to focus on medium-scale (lab-level) instead of small-scale

Adele "You have a strong process in place, already run some experiments and it's good you have engaded the Woolshed community. Keep going! "
Anastasia 4 key priorities for each pilar. Washing: developing a DIY suint fermentation machine / Felting: scientific comparison between felting techniques (using the same amount of wool and the same amount of time, observing and documenting the results), artistic samples might be produced / Biomaterials: community workshop (alginate + wool + food-based powder ingredients), development of a workshop template and testing it with FR Woolshed for planning / Biochromes: research into traditional Alpine colours now considered cultural heritage; pigments can be purchased rather than foraged

Adele Run workshops on biomaterials within the wool community, involving wool producers. My personal motivation is clear: I want to work closely with people.
Anastasia Use the "Place - Design - Make - Impact" model for storytelling, possibly referring to the seasonal cycles of the wool process.
Carolina Seek funding for the project, as its technical and scientific aspects are well suited to R&D contexts.

Mid term review

Name Comment
Becky The project is strong, well-structured and making significant progress. To move it forward, it should integrate measurable results—particularly clear data demonstrating water savings and identifying where and how these gains occur throughout the process. This evidence could support future funding opportunities. Further development could include exploring market applications and cross-sector collaborations, as many textile innovations struggle to scale without clear demand. From an academic perspective, the project is close to becoming a publishable paper if supported by a clear evaluation framework, identified gains and proposed measurement methods approached from a designer’s standpoint.

Storytelling

Narrative

The narrative of this project unfolds starting from its context: it has its roots in Sardinia and extends to France through the Woolshed project.

It begins by addressing the challenges of working with rustic wool and gradually focuses on the role of water as a central element within the research.

A more detailed section explores the four pillars of the project and the different roles water plays, including the experiments and observations developed throughout the process.

The storytelling then opens towards what’s next, a direction that is still evolving, and concludes with the wool community, which has been a fundamental source of learning and inspiration. Despite the challenges surrounding wool today, there is a shared commitment to valorising this resource.

Video

The final video combines testimonials, field documentation from wool-related journeys, and scenes from material experiments.

The testimonials were collected through voice notes, where participants were invited to share their personal experiences with wool. These were later gathered, edited, and carefully selected, shaping the structure and flow of the video.

Among them, one reflection on the future of wool emerged strongly and was chosen as a closing message of hope, envisioning a renewed role for wool as a material with multiple applications and deep ancestral roots, able to connect with people on an emotional level.
