11. Implications and applications

WEEK 11:

This is what would be an outline of the final project

Tentative name: Ally pocket:

WHAT

I am interested in finding a problem-situation in which I can somehow help to improve the life of the common citizen.

I want to develop an accessory-piece, using 3D technology. That this piece be independent, but that it can be used in different garments or bags (your own belongings), to fulfill the practical function of facilitating moments of day to day life in the city.

I am also interested in exploring how to mix 3D built elements with existing clothing elements, to stimulate a longer use of the objects we already have at home.

WHY

I was trained in Cuba, as a designer, a country with a lot of precariousness and where we use as a design method, the detection of a problem as a first step.

Since I have been living in France I have found myself in the need to take all kinds of public transport, many times (Metro, Train, Tram, bus). From my own experience I have felt as a problem of movility when entering each transport, although it is more critical in the Metro and the Tram.

I feel difficulty when it comes to handle essential objects, such as cell phone, glasses, wallet, mask, etc.. because I need to store some, put on others and at the same time have all them at hand, at the time of boarding the public transport. Therefore, I would like to inquire from my own experience and on the experience of others in the same situation, to detect if it is really a common situation that can be improved.

On the other hand I am interested in creating a strong relationship between a 3D built object and conventional objects that already exist, such as a piece of clothing or a handbag. When I say strong I mean that they look good visually together and that they are both durable, that they don't break easily.

FORM

For now I visualize it as a pocket that we attach to some garment of ours.

It should work to place objects but also prevent theft of belongings.

The design of this net must fulfill these practical functions, as well as having an aesthetic function, which is not yet defined.

MATERIALS

I have to study the options that exist but at first I would like to use a plastic, which is resistant, semi-flexible and does not impact negatively on the environment. Although being an independent element, you can extend its life by changing the piece where you attach it. For now I am thinking that it can be fixed by hand with thread and needle.
