3. Circular Open Source Fashion

In this week we made different fashion pieces using one repetitive module interlocked with each other without using glue or stitches

JELLY FISH

Sketches & Inspiration

The Jelly Fish is an incredible creature I was inspired by its shape, movement and colors

The Creature That Never Dies

Process and Workflow

Design with Illustrator

I started with Illustrator to sketch my idea digitally, you can use any software that you are familiar with

Prototyping

I started with fabric waste I cut it manually with scissors to try the interlocking technique, dimensions and style DO NOT MIND THE COLORS :)

After prototyping I can now know how many pieces I need so I do not have waste and can set the dimensions to each piece right, In my case I used an old dress so I had to cut the original stiches make two pieces and masseur the Hight and width of each piece to nest the shapes according to their dimensions

This is the final step before fabricating I tried arranging shapes in order to save as much fabric as I can NOW WE CAN GO TO FABRICATION

Fabrication

NOT ANY FABRIC CAN BE CUT BY LASER be carful to what you cut using laser because some fabrics can produce toxic gases and some can start a fire and others can rune the laser lens I made a small test before cutting one fabric I burned it with a lighter and the result was that the fabric milted as if it was plastic so I did not laser cut it

The second test I made was to test the power and speed to cut a leftover fabric so I wont rune the one I want to work with, the power I used here was low there are some parts that are still attached so I need to set the power a bit higher

This was the right power and speed to cut my fabric 25.00 power and 1.5 speed and do not forget to check the material on the material database

Before cutting make sure your fabric piece is taped to sides of the laser bed so it wont move during cutting and the cuts will not overlap, and try to make it as strait as possible, I used silk and synthetic chiffon (Organza) after making sure it can be laser cut

Always remember to set the Hight for your material using the small magnetic metal tool

START CUTTING

Interlocking system

I used the male-female interlocking technique to put the pieces together, each piece was shaped narrow then wide to go in a hole and stick to the other piece

Assembling

This was the most fun part my piece coming to life

I used Clipchamp to speed my video up you can find some easy tutorials on Youtube
