Research & Ideation

A few months ago, I ordered myself a science kit made for kids to learn about polarized light. This kit demonstrates how, when placing specific materials between 2 polarized filters and letting the light pass through, colors are revealed in a way that is magical. I enjoyed playing around with different materials, seeing how they react when you move them, or slice them.

References & Inspiration

Since creating these explorations, I have been inspired by artists who play with light and color, such as canadian visual artist Soderberg Mills. I also found the work of Kotaro Watanabe, who uses "polarized" umbrellas and creates a pretty stunning image and story about bringing people together under the rain.

This is giving me some ideas for exploring polarized light through garments or wearable art. I think I will try to explore this throughout my fabricademy journey whenever possible.
