| VIII. - TEXTILE COATING |

HYDROPHOOBIC TEXTILLES

A thin, almost insivisible layer of textiles and layer with waterproof and flame-retardant properties can be achieved using spray textiles coating.


This type of coating was texted with pure keratin powder or in combination with alginate to create a protective layer of textiles or biomaterials intead of chemical treatments.

1. PURE KERATIN

Tools

  • magnetic stirrer, magnet, glass jar, weight, spray

Recipe

  • 15% - 20% wt

Keratin powder Disttilled Water
30 g 150 ml

Process

  • Turn on the magnetic stirrer and place the glass jar with the distilled water on the top - turn on preheating.
  • Turn it on 300-500 rpm and slowly add keratin powder - spoon by spoon. Wait till it will dissolve and add more powder.
  • Stirr the solution at 60-70'C for 2 h so all the ingredients will be well mixed.
  • Let it cool down and pour it into the spray bottle.
  • Spray it on the surface of textiles and let it dry.

2. KERATIN & ALGINATE

Tools

  • magnetic stirrer, magnet, glass jar, hand blender, weight, spoon, spray, hand blender

Recipe

  • 15% wt - 2% wt

Keratin powder Alginate Distiller Water
30 g 20 g 150 ml

Process

  • use the hand blender to mix alginate with distilled water and let it sit down.
  • Turn on the magnetic stirrer and place the glass jar with the distilled water on the top - turn on preheating.
  • Turn it on 300-500 rpm and slowly add keratin powder - spoon by spoon. Wait till it will dissolve and add more powder.
  • Stirr the solution at 60-70'C for 2 h so all the ingredients will be well mixed.
  • Let it cool down and mix it properly with alginate using the magnet. After that you can pour it into the spray bottle.
  • Spray it on the surface of textiles and let it dry.
