11. Implications and applications

Research & Concept

This week we had to come up with an idea of the final project. Since the first week i new i wanted to do something related to the biomaterials. I even envisioned the product i want to have as at the final. But through the weeks, i began to experiment with differnt materials to try to create different swaches and it started to cach mold. I became more desperate and didn't know what to do. At the beginning i was in an ok mood but graduated i became more depressed because i started to feel lost and overwhelmed by everyone. As the lecture proceed with Oscar Tomico i started to lose my confidence because i heard other ideas which are more grandiose, beautiful and really solve a probleme. And then came the miro tutorial. At the start of the tutorials i was kind of lost, because of the duality of my idea, i didn't know where to go. I decided to join the biomaterial group just because this was my first idea and i thought maybe i can find a solution to my problem. But as everyone was expressing their ideas, i became more and more depressed because i was lost, my idea wasn't so global, or big, or impactful. So for the second day of the tutorial i was more passive and restrained, and also couldn't complete my "How might we" board. After talking with our remote instructor and getting a little bit of light on this situation i decided to do everything step by step and in my own way. I will start with sketching my idea, doing my moodboard, so that i can have something to grab on to when i do the next steps of brainstorming.

A very big help in finding a way of how to put my thoughts into words on paper was V I C K Y + L U A N page.

References & Inspiration

So i know i want to create a dress that will be bio-dyed with leds that will mimic the clouds and lightning. For this i have to take the steps back to find the story, why do we need this garment, why do i want this idea. Firstly i started to put together my moodboard of what i want to have in my final product, what inspires me and what is close to my vision.

Mood board

After getting my moodboard to better get the visual effect of my idea i start to sketch my dress.

My challenges

After all this i started to ask myself this questions:

  • How do i acquire my materials?
  • Will i be able to use thrifted dress or second hand material?
  • The price point of my idea, is it too expensive or not?
  • Will i be able to bio dye my dress into a bluish color using food waste or other natural products?
  • Will i be able to create the needed circuit for my idea?
  • Can i offer free access to my creative and the manufacturing process?
  • Will i be able to show and teach other students thru this example about e-textiles and bio dyeing?
  • Who will need my garment?
  • What benefit it will bring?
  • Do i have enough time to make it?

The "W"

WHY?

  • To bring awareness about the clime change
  • To show and teach other students thru this example about e-textiles and bio dyeing
  • To help the industry in my country to become more developed, aware and sustainable for this planet.
