Digital bodies#
September 22th 2026
Anastasia Pistofidou
Throughout history, the human body and its representation have played a central role in art, science, medicine and psychology. Fashion designers use the human figure as their canvas, just as writers once used pencil and paper, then typewriters, keyboards and now voice dictation and artificial intelligence. As the tools of writing evolved, so have those of fashion design. With the rise of digital fabrication and mass customization, the fashion industry requires new tools to scan and fabricate digitally tailored garments. How can designers access a digital tailor that responds to individual needs? This class introduces digital design and fabrication tools that complement hand tools to design, represent, fabricate and modify the human figure as a creative canvas. Participants are challenged to move beyond copying the body and begin their creative process by designing the canvas itself. Participants will explore design and prototyping tools, receive basic lab safety training and scan themselves to create a 1:1 scale digital human model.
